‘a shelter to find yourself towards the future’
‘creases’ project in Rome.
A chapel, like a cloak, gives us shelter, helps us to protect ourselves. It offers us darkness and silence to think, to think about … to concentrate.
Yelena Isinbayeva was covered with a blanket before each jump, in the middle of a stadium full of people, looking for concentration.
a wall made into a chapel.
Her gesture represents one of the simplest and most pure forms of chapel. That moment, that moment of covering one’s self, to find peace in the hustle and bustle which is a stadium or a contemporary city, is transformed here into architecture.
In ‘CREASES’ the traces of the past, symbolized in the unfinished wall, meet with the present. Those fold and gradually become a refuge/shelter for the citizen, who walks towards the future.
